Langkawi

Langkawi is an archipelago at the Western Thai-Malay border, comprising 99 islands. The main island offers great infrastructure which makes it easy to explore its breathtaking tropical rainforests. The beautiful big mangrove forest can be explored by boat. Although no prominent big mammals inhabit the island, the biodiversity is extremely high. Langkawi is not only home to a diverse herpetofauna, one can also see more than 200 species of birds and 500 species of butterflies. It’s nearly impossible to go out for a night-walk and not stumble across something interesting and mind-blowing. The Machinchang sandstone formation is estimated to be about 550 million years old, making it the oldest formation of whole Malaysia. However, Langkawi consists out of six different rock formations, which is reflected in a high level of biodiversity and makes this island so diverse. To me, those facts make Langkawi one of the best photography locations and that’s the reason why I’ve already been there four times.
